Messi: “The anger for losing the World Cup Final will never go away”

The FC Barcelona striker spoke to the media after Argentina lost to Brazil in their Beijing friendly Mascherano was frustrated by so many mistakes and reckons the team still needs time to gel

Leo Messi was clearly disappointed after Argentina were beaten 2-0 by South American rivals Brazil in China. “They game was defined by two mistakes by us in the first goal and the penalty” he said. “If I’d scored, it would have changed the game. We were better early on but couldn’t take advantage of that. They scored with their first clear chance.”

He also spoke about working under his former FCB boss Gerardo Martino, commenting that “the team has not had much time to adjust to the new coach. But with more training and matches we’ll try to get a better idea of what Martino wants. And I’m sure we will.”

Messi also mentioned the defeat to Germany in the World Cup Final, saying that “the anger for losing that final will never go away. And for their goal so close to the end.”

Javier Mascherano also spoke after the game in Beijing, expressing his unhappiness that “we didn’t make our chances count in the first half, not even the penalty. But this team is still growing. We need more time.”
