The 9 key goals that shaped Luis Suárez's Barça career

In six seasons as a blaugrana the Uruguayan striker scored 198 goals but we highlight nine from the Barça number nine

The number nine. A figure that will always be associated with Luis Suárez after his six seasons with FC Barcelona. Enough time for the Uruguayan to work his way up to third on the all time list of goalscorers at FC Barcelona with 198 and here we take a look at nine of the best:

Off the mark

In his sixth game as a Barça player, Suárez opened his goalscoring account. It came on 25 November 2014 in the 27th minute of a game against APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League. A little flick and then a curling finish into the corner, a sign of things to come.

Overhead

Suárez showed his athleticism with a spectacular bicycle kick against Levante at Camp Nou in February 2015. Just to prove it was not a fluke, the Uruguayan repeated the feat not once but twice against Sevilla in two separate games in 2017 and 2019.

El Clásico

On 22 March 2015 Luis Suárez burst away from Pepe and Sergio Ramos and scored his first ever goal in a Clásico. It was just his second appearance in the fixture having made his debut for Barça against Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabéu the previous October. The striker would continue to be a thorn in the side for Barça's biggest rivals with 11 goals in 16 appearances in the Clásico.

The Champions League final

June 2015 and ‘El Pistolero’ ended his first season at Barça in dramatic fashion. A goal against Juventus in the Champions League final in Berlin helped the blaugranes to a 3-1 victory and a fifth title for FC Barcelona, part of a historic treble to which Suárez was an vital contributor. .

League title and Golden Shoe in 2015/16

Luis Suárez's successful first season was followed by a second. The Uruguayan's hat-trick against Granada in May 2016 clinched a second consecutive league title, and with a total of 40 goals, the Golden Shoe award for Europe's top league goalscorer.

A header to give hope

It may not be his most aesthetically pleasing goal but Luis Suárez's header in the 3rd minute of the second leg of the Champions League quarter final against Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 gave the blaugranes hope that a comeback was possible. The rest, as they say, is history.

A league century

In just 114 matches, Suárez reached a century of goals as a Barça player, quicker than anyone else in the Club's history, in January 2018.

Backheel magic

'It is the best goal of my career,' said Suárez after his spectacular backheel against Mallorca in December 2019. On a wintery evening at Camp Nou his effort from a tight angle had the fans on their feet.

Into third place

Messi, César and... Suárez. July 2020 in the Catalan derby against Espanyol and Suárez scores goal number 195 in a Barça shirt and moves into third place on the all time list of Barça goalscorers behind two other blaugranes legends, Messi and César.
