Joan Laporta promises to turn things around and put smiles back on Barça faces

President vows that the club “will be loved and admired once again and will receover its role at the forefront of the sports world"

Joan Laporta has spoken mainly about the future and being strong and optimistic in his President's report, which succeeded in approving the accounts presented by the previous Board of Directors. He did so, however, after referring to the images in a video that reviewed the 2019/20 season in the sports and especially institutional field, episodes that, the president remarked, "should never happened." With the settlement of the 2019/20 accounts and the approval of the 2020/21 budget, Laporta considers "a stage to have ended that had too many shadows, too much bitterness, with too many things that we did not like, but to make way for a new era in which we will make every effort to reverse the situation, and we will do so because we are Barça”.

Promising change

The president appealed to himself, the Board of Directors, executives and employees of the club to achieve this goal, as well as that of the “thousands of members and fans, and to lay the foundations for the coming years that, with effort and a lot of work, we want these years to be splendid. We are Barça and we never give up. Today, more than ever, we must look to the horizon with the utmost optimism and strength."

Laporta thanked the members again for the trust placed in him at the elections on March 7, and said that "we understand and accept that things are very unsettled, but that nothing will distract the Board of Directors from its path towards in the sense that Barça will be loved and admired everywhere again, joy will return to Barça and so we can all touch glory again and continue to make history".

Hard work and commitment

The president promises "hard work ... We have a plan, you trusted us to implement it and we will implement it, with discretion and professionalism. We make no false promises that we can not fulfill, and shall not linger on the past, and even less so make any decisions in a spirit of revenge. We are not like that. We were not taught to act that way. We don't see Barça like that."

Working with the premise that “Barça is a feeling”, Laporta and the Board of Directors have set themselves the goal to not only put smiles back on faces but make Barça once again be an engine of optimism and recover the spirit of work, enthusiasm, drive, solidarity that Barça is so loved, admired and respected for everywhere. FC Barcelona must recover its position as a leading institution in the world of sport, and to achieve this, the club will have strong leaders who will always put Barça above all else. That is my commitment. Strong leadership that is not incompatible with emotions and feelings."

Finally, the Barça president made a declaration of commitment to continue being “a multi-sport club known and recognised all over the world, for our history, for our successes, for our players and also for what we represent, and we want to continue representing."
