After playing the first 62 minutes of the 1-1 draw in Bilbao, he flew straight back to Canary Islands, where he is taking a fortnight off after a nonstop year in which he played 73 games for Barça and the Spanish Euro 2020 and Olympic teams.

Looking to get even better

In a special event put on by the local council at the Teatro Príncipe Felipe, and attended, among others, by his family and former playing colleagues from the islands, and where words were spoken by the local mayoress Ani Mena and the councillor for sport, Antonio López, Pedri responded the hearty applause by saying “I am very proud to be from Tegueste."

The player was presented with a commemorative plaque for being the first Olympic medallist from the town, together with his first ever Tegueste playing strip and his first membership card of the local football federation.

"I want to keep furthering my football career” said the player. “I just want to enjoy every day, although by biggest dream is to win the Champions League.”
