Five years since the arrival of Luis Suárez to Barça

The Uruguayan striker celebrates his fifth anniversary as a blaugrana having become the fifth highest scorer in the history of the club

On 11 July 2014, FC Barcelona reached an agreement with Liverpool and the signing of Luis Suárez was announced. Five years later, the Uruguayan has become one of the key players in the team and the fifth highest scorer in the history of the club, with 177 goals in 247 games. He has won 13 titles whilst at Barça.

The first season was a dream for him: Barça won the second treble in their history with 25 goals from the Uruguayan, despite him missing the first part of the season through suspension.

Of the five seasons that he's been at FC Barcelona, the 15/16 campaign was the best for the Barça striker in terms of individual figures. He scored 59 goals in 53 games in a season when Barça won the league and cup.

In addition, at the end of that season, Luis Suárez equalled Ramón Villaverde as the top Uruguayan scorer in the club's history (81 goals each).

During the last two seasons, he's kept scoring and making history at Barça. In that time he's become the player that has needed the fewest matches to reach 100 goals in the league, surpassing the records of Messi, César, Kubala and Eto'o.

In 2019, the striker also achieved two new records. First he passed Escolà and became the fifth highest scorer in the history of the club, and then he reached the 131 goals in the league, equalling Ladislau Kubala as the third highest scorer in the competition for Barça.
