Out on the field, Vidal donned the Barça shirt for the first time and exchanged passes with his son Alfonso, who was born on 7 May 2009, the day after Andrés Iniesta’s famous goal at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. After the football stopped, the two Vidals posed for photos in one of the images of the day.
Before emerging out onto the field for the first time as a blaugrana, the Chilean midfielder had signed his three year contract with FC Barcelona in the presence of sporting vicepresident Jordi Mestre. Afterwards, in a brief appearance with the sporting vicepresident, Vidal gave his first reaction after signing for the blaugranes: “I am really happy to be at the best team in the world.”
