Barça and Manchester City will be meeting in a charity fundraiser for ALS research on August 24 at Camp Nou. The teams have met 12 times in friendlies and competitive games over the years, with Barça generally having the upper hand with eight wins, one draw and just three defeats in 12 games.
Six friendlies
1952 (Friendly) FC Barcelona 5-1 Manchester City
The first ever meeting was in this friendly at Les Corts, which Barça won comfortably including a Kubala hat-trick.
1957 (Friendly) FC Barcelona 3-2 Manchester City
Five years later, another friendly victory at Les Corts, this time with goals from Villaverde, Tejada and Sampedro.
1974 (Friendly) FC Barcelona 3-2 Manchester City
City were the guests at the 75th anniversary celebrations, with Cruyff scoring one of the goals.
1986 (Colombino Trophy, Huelva) FC Barcelona 1-1 Manchester City
A draw on neutral territory in this preseason competition, although the Citizens advanced to the final on penalties.
2003 (Friendly) Manchester City 2-1 FC Barcelona
The first game in Manchester was to inaugurate the English side’s new stadium, and was also the first City win over the Catalans.
2009 (Gamper) FC Barcelona 0-1 Manchester City
The sky blues were the guests at the traditional preseason event and thanks to a Petrov goal won for the first and only time at Camp Nou.
Six Champions League meetings
2014 (Champions League) Manchester City 0-2 FC Barcelona
2014 (Champions League) FC Barcelona 2-1 Manchester City
The first time the sides met in a competitive fixture was in the last sixteen of the Champions League. Goals from Leo Messi (pen) and Dani Alves right at the end set things up nicely for the second leg at Camp Nou, where the same two players scored again to ensure a 4-1 aggregate victory.
2015 (Champions League) Manchester City 1-2 FC Barcelona
2015 (Champions League) FC Barcelona 1-0 Manchester City
The teams met again at the same stage the following season. Again Barça got off to the perfect start with a win away from home in the first leg, this time thanks to a brace from Luis Suárez. And again they added to their lead in the second leg, with Ivan Rakitic scoring the only goal as Barça moved closer to what would be their second treble winning season.
2016 (Champions League) FC Barcelona 4-0 Manchester City
2016 (Champions League) Manchester City 3-1 FC Barcelona
The last time the teams met was in the group stage six years ago. A Messi hat-trick and one more from Neymar meant a huge blaugrana win at Camp Nou, and although they’d lose 3-1 at the Etihad, it didn’t matter because they had won the group already.
