In bitterly cold conditions in Minnesota (-17°), the United States have moved a big step closer to qualification for the Qatar 2022 World Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over Honduras.
Sergiño Dest, who played the full 90 of the defeat in Canada was rested for this game.
All three US goals came from set pieces. Weston McKennie opened the scoring after eight minutes, Walker Zimmmerman added a second after 37 and Christian Pulisic finished the job on 68.
With five games still to play, the result leaves the USMNT second in the Concacaf qualifying group, level on 21 points with Mexico and four adrift of leaders Canada. With Panama and Costa Rica at what is, for the time being, a comfortable distance behind, it means the US remain on good course for a place in the finals.
