The Catalan national team was in action for the first time in three years on Wednesday, with Riqui Puig and Óscar Mingueza both starting the impressive 6-0 win over Jamaica at the Montilivi, Girona.
Ferran Jutglà of Barça B also featured, and scored one of the goals for the side managed by former Barça and reserve team coach Gerard López. With the exception of Elche-based goalkeeper Edgar Badia, every one of the starting XI had some kind of association to FC Barcelona.
Forming a midfield alongside two other La Masia graduates, Oriol Romeu and Carles Aleñá, Puig was heavily involved in the midfield going forward and played a part in the first two goals. The Catalans dominated the first 45 minutes, and the blaugrana starlet displayed his full repertoire of dribbling, passing and shooting skills, with Catalonia leading 4-0 at the break with goals from two other players with a Barça past, an impressive hat-trick from Udinese’s Gerard Deulofeu and one from Marc Bartra of Betis.
Puig and Mingueza came off at the break, which is when Ferran Jutglà entered the fray. He had already hit the post before he finally netted goal number five for his side. Javi Puado of Espanyol completed the rout with a penalty two minutes from the end.
